Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv

Founded in 1953 as a historical and archaeological museum, the Eretz Israel Museum is a must-see attraction for all ages. It boasts a wealth of treasures documenting the many facets of Jewish life through art, folklore, archaeological, and historical artefacts.

It is a vast museum, with several pavilions and an archaeological site called Tell Qasile, unearthing the remains of a port city founded by the Philistines in the 12th century BC.

The Eretz Israel Museum has several pavilions, each focused on a different discipline.

The Glass Pavilion displays items from the private collection of Dr. Walter Moses – founder of the museum – including items from the Late Bronze Age to the Hellenistic period, Roman and Byzantine periods, and the Islamic period. The main treasure of the pavilion is a gold-glass panel from the “Birds’ Mosaic Mansion,” Caesarea Late 6th- early 7th century CE, on loan from the Israel Antiquities Authority.

Another interesting pavilion of the Eretz Israel Museum hosts the Man and His Work Center with displays showing traditional ways of life in Israel – including agriculture, crafts, domestic work, design, and decoration.

The Alexander Museum of Postal History & Philately at the Eretz Israel Museum is a must-see too – it has a fun workshop for the little ones.
